Fiery Arrows

I’m learning about the terrors of the night and the arrow that flies by day in a study about Psalm 91. What joy and comfort Isaiah 54:16-17 brings when you consider the daily arrows life gives.

“I have created the blacksmith who fans the coals beneath the forge and makes the weapons of destruction. But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

On a side note from the study, it stated that there was a war strategy of dipping arrows in poison before being shot at the intended victim. By doing this, it not only wounded the victim but also inflicted them with sickness. Damage was done regardless, leaving behind a fiery sensation.

What a great reminder that the fiery arrows that we incur or deliver daily can leave a mark of destruction that stings, whether intended or not. May the Lord guard our hearts and minds as we combat the arrows that fly in the day and remember how dearly loved you are.
